As part of a team of nine designers, I collaborated with Sony Pictures Entertainment to redesign the Jeopardy! brand identity, aiming to engage a younger, modern audience while honoring the show’s legacy. Together, we developed a comprehensive 360° launch campaign that included updated print and OOH ads, a stronger web and digital presence, refreshed on-air graphics, and new teaser trailers and promos to generate excitement around the relaunch.

  • Jeopardy! an iconic television quiz show with decades of history, had strong brand recognition but was facing the challenge of remaining culturally relevant and engaging the next generation of viewers, especially younger adults (ages 18–24). The existing brand identity and promotional materials did not fully reflect the fast‑paced thinking, diverse topics, or dynamic energy of the show, and the campaign needed to modernize the visual language while honoring the legacy that longtime fans expected.

  • To inform our design strategy, we studied and aligned on several key contextual factors:

    • Audience Insight
      We focused on understanding how younger viewers consume entertainment and engage with content online, aiming to identify visual and experiential preferences that could draw them into the Jeopardy! brand.

    • Legacy Analysis
      We examined the enduring elements of Jeopardy!’s long history and what makes the show meaningful to its loyal fanbase, identifying visual, tonal, and experiential cues that should be maintained or evolved.

    • Competitive/Media Landscape
      By reviewing modern campaign strategies for entertainment media rebrands and cross‑platform promotional efforts, we understood how to position Jeopardy! within a crowded digital ecosystem where younger audiences consume content rapidly.

    • Collaborative Workshops
      We worked closely with the Sony Pictures Entertainment design team to synthesize goals, constraints, and opportunities into a cohesive strategic brief that guided our visual exploration.

  • Our response was a comprehensive, multi‑platform brand refresh that fused Jeopardy!’s classic heritage with contemporary, energetic design:

    • We developed a dynamic puzzle‑inspired visual system as the core branding element, with animated interlocking pieces that could assemble into unified compositions to represent the layered thinking and rapid recall central to Jeopardy!’s gameplay.

    • This system became the backbone of a 360° launch campaign, including refreshed print and out‑of‑home advertising, a stronger web and digital presence, and updated social and experiential graphics.

    • We redesigned on‑air graphics and created new teaser trailers and promos to build excitement and signal a bold, modernized identity.

    • The revised main title sequence paired animated puzzle elements with a remixed version of the iconic theme song to appeal to younger viewers while honoring the show’s legacy.

    • Website and social enhancements, including features like a rewards system and live game interactions, were introduced to deepen audience engagement and create a more interactive experience around the Jeopardy! brand.

We developed a sliding puzzle theme that evolved into a dynamic layout of animated pieces, serving as the core branding element across all platforms. These pieces (see #1) can assemble into unified compositions (see #2), creating a flexible system of modern, energetic visuals. The goal was to refresh Jeopardy’s identity with graphics that reflect the fast-paced thinking and diverse range of topics that make the show so compelling.

Main Title

The main title leverages the puzzle pattern to reflect the complexity and layered thinking behind Jeopardy. By focusing on the movement and interaction of interlocking elements, it visually represents the mental agility the game demands. Paired with a remixed version of the iconic theme song—updated to match the bold, modern style of the visuals—the new title sequence is designed to resonate with a younger, more dynamic audience while honoring the show's legacy.
